Dear Friends,

While establishing the June C. Baker Foundation in the spring of 2004 we agreed that our mission would be to provide support to needy families of "Kids with Cancer." A member of the Red Hat Society who volunteered at the Foshay Cancer Center in Jupiter suggested we work with the Pediatric Oncology Support Team housed on the campus of St. Mary's Children's Hospital, now St. Mary's Medical Center, in West Palm Beach. After several meetings it was clear that working with P.O.S.T. would ensure success in helping families in need. P.O.S.T. keeps a file on the family of each child under their care with pertinent information that they refer to in advising us of the neediest patients. During the first several years our support was for prescription drugs, out-of-area travel and gasoline cards, the latter becoming a huge need when gasoline prices increased. When we learned that many families could not afford a birthday party for a child or clothing and shoes to wear to school, we added support for the respite program. In 2016 the Foundation began providing funds for a limited number of neuropsychological evaluations necessary for children with brain damage caused by chemotherapy or radiation.

During 2016 P.O.S.T. was caring for 125 children. We provided support to more than 60 families in need. Easton, aged two, was diagnosed at the age of six months with Retinalblastoma, a cancer of the eyes. The closest center to providing the care he requires is in New York, and he and a family member have had to travel there every month for specialized treatments. He is now in remission but has to get check-ups every three months.

Brandon is a bright, polite, handsome and athletic ten-year-old with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. This cancer is usually seen in adults; Brandon was diagnosed with it when he was eight. He is on oral chemotherapy and will likely remain on it the rest of his life. With wonderful parents, a twin sister and an older brother, he receives strong and loving support.

We are beginning the 14th year of providing aid to "Kids with Cancer" and will always have volunteer Board Members who perform tasks required by I.R.S. and pay all costs associated with the Foundation. This practice ensures that all donated funds will be available to improve the quality of life for families in a six-county area of South Florida. We express deep appreciation for your generosity and thank you for enabling us to keep June's memory alive in a very meaningful way.

Sincerely,
Allyson Samiljan
