Since the June C. Baker Foundation was established in 2004, friends, relatives, board members and members of several chapters of The Red Hat Society have provided support to hundreds of families of "Kids with Cancer" in need of financial assistance in a large geographical area of Florida. It is important to remember that Red Hatters in Shell Point, a community near Fort Myers near the Gulf, were instrumental in the establishment of the Foundation; ladies in that chapter, led by Ann Hermann, continue to provide strong support.
During the past year we provided financial aid to families for insurance premiums, repairs to the roof of a mobile home, automobile repair and grocery store gift cards. We also paid for extensive dental work for a 13-year-old girl who suffered major damage to her bones and teeth from radiation to her throat. That young lady, Leilani, is now free of cancer and, as you can see, has a charming smile!
We are beginning the sixteenth year of providing financial assistance to families of "Kids with Cancer" with volunteer board members who perform all tasks and pay all costs associated with the Foundation. This annual request for donations is our only fundraising activity, and we assure you that all donated funds will be available to improve the quality of life for families in a six-county area of South Florida. We express great appreciation for your generosity and thank you for enabling us to keep June's memory alive in a very meaningful way.
